Educational Support
Our "Read and Lead” book clubs hold in all public primary schools in the communities we serve. Our overall aim is to enlighten children on the art of reading by engaging them in activities that will improve their academic and social abilities.
We focus on providing reading materials that inspire excellence and leadership to engage their literacy abilities.
This initiative has resulted in a marked improvement in children's interest in reading and has improved their ability to express themselves. Over 10,000 children have benefitted from this initiative to date.
Short Success Story
One common feature our team has noticed on the field is that majority of the children we meet in underserved communities cannot read and write. Hence, it is always a big deal for us as an organization when we see children who couldn’t read before now reading for the first time in years.
This scenario reflects Sandra’s story. Sandra is 15 years old and for a long time couldn’t read and write. After she was referred to us and we engaged her in our reading club programme, her reading got better by the day.
According to Sandra, her interest in reading books is driving her closer to the goal of becoming a nurse in the future.
Sponsor a Child initiative: This initiative centres on putting out-of-school children and dropouts in school. Our aim through this initiative is to provide quality education with more accessible and equal educational opportunities to children who can't afford them.
Over the years, DCF has provided sponsorship in educational aid and welfare to over 10,200 at-risk children by paying tuition fees and delivering learning materials.
It's noteworthy to mention that this has helped motivate children to go back to school, boost their confidence, and participate in school activities.
Success Story
Two years ago, Emmanuel, a 16 years old boy had given up hope of returning to school after dropping out of school for four years coupled with his dad walking out on their family, leaving his brothers to be catered for by their sick mother.
But fate had a different plan. One day he received a call that changed his life’s trajectory. Dolly Children Foundation had found sponsors who were ready to help him and his brothers return to school.
Emmanuel’s good fortune saw him receive a full scholarship to a private school. Today, we are thrilled with his growth as he will be sitting for his O’ levels examination this year. He has also gained some digital skills through some of our partnerships. This gives him more opportunities.
He is not alone in his successes. His younger brother is now being sponsored in a private school where he is getting a high-quality education. His mother received support for her business and his family now lives in an apartment furnished by one of his key partners.
What Emmanuel’s story reminds us is that every child’s dream is valid and they can be anything regardless of their background.
Extra tutoring programmes are available after school as well as during the summer to help children from low–income backgrounds that are lagging behind academically.
Child labourers, street children, and dropouts have especially benefited from this program as it keeps them occupied and reduces their availability on the street. Over 5,100 children have benefitted from the summer programme alone.
Teachers and volunteers engage these children in academic and entrepreneurial classes to effectively improve academic performance, acquire new skills, and reduce their exposure to child labour, and child abuse.
Community sensitization on the importance of education and child rights is often organized in remote communities. This exercise has created a platform for counselling parents/guardians of children from impoverished backgrounds who are an easy target for environmental vices and such are identified quickly.
Furthermore, this program not only helps children academically but also emotionally by giving them more individual attention thereby, making them feel loved, wanted and significant.

The Dolly Stars School is a tuition-free primary school in Magboro that serves out-of-school children. Our goal is to provide equal educational opportunities for children who have been marginalized as a result of poverty, the death of one or both parents, or other life challenges.
We believe that by collaborating with credible individuals and organizations, we will be able to write new narratives for these children by providing them with access to quality education.
Aside from the children enrolled at Dolly Stars School, we provide educational support to children in other communities and states through our parent organization, Dolly Children Foundation.
